The emblematic parish of San Nicolás (Valencia), in association with Global Menta, a Valencia-based cultural management company, announced the creation of La Luz de San Nicolás: a sensory journey through the history and art of what is known as the Valencia’s Sistine Chapel. Designed and produced by Mediapro Exhibitions (GRUP MEDIAPRO), the experience is scheduled to open to the public at the end of 2024 and will be the first ever immersive experience of this magnitude in an ecclesial setting in the Valencian Community.
Conceived as a tribute to beauty, this innovative cultural project is comprised of three main experiences designed to transport visitors through the history and architectural beauty of San Nicolas. The first experience, "Homage to Beauty": a spectacular mapping projected onto the vault and pillars of the central nave will transform darkness into a celebration of light, inspired by the Baroque. This display of light and shadow will reveal the Gothic structure of the temple and its exquisite decoration.
The second experience, "The Heartbeat of St. Nicholas" is an interactive historical tour that presents the church as a living organism, where the stories of its illustrious characters remain palpable to this day. Through a series of interactive installations inspired by the temple's architectural and pictorial elements, visitors will get the opportunity to explore ten significant historical landmarks using tactile totem poles. Finally, "Lux ex Oriente": a contemplative experience that evokes the presence of St. Nicholas through an immense stained-glass window, light and images. This third stage will invite visitors to pause and reflection, providing a moment of peace to internalize the experience lived.
San Nicolás stands out for its ability to offer a unique experience focused on the act of observing. Beyond mere superficial contemplation, this new proposal will invite visitors to immerse themselves in the very soul of each work of art. Inspired by the concept of augmented art, which Leonardo Da Vinci described as "an ongoing process of exploration and reinterpretation," this initiative wields technology to revitalize and keep the venue’s artistic legacy alive, offering fresh perspectives and delving into the hidden beauty that resides in every corner of the temple.Mediapro Exhibitions, the division of GRUP MEDIAPRO specialized in the creation and development of exhibition and museum projects, is the company in charge of the conceptualization, design and production of this experience.
