GRUP MEDIAPRO celebrates its 30th anniversary having established itself as one of the world leaders in audiovisual production


 

The group has announced major projects designed to keep it at the industry’s forefront

GRUP MEDIAPRO marked its 30th anniversary this week by revealing key initiatives designed to cement its status as a global frontrunner in audiovisual production.

They include the opening next April of a new audiovisual production center in Yonkers (New York), the launch of The Mediapro Studio’s new creation and production center in Los Angeles, the plans for the new MEDIAPRO XPERIENCES business unit; and the creation and management of a €1 billion fund for investment in sports IP – as shared by GRUP MEDIAPRO President and Managing Director Tatxo Benet and CEO Laura Fernández Espeso at events in Madrid and Barcelona.

THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO’s new branch in Los Angeles open for business
THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO is a leading force in today’s global audiovisual industry. This year has been decisive in its international expansion with the Studio bolstering its footing in North America with the appointment of Juan 'JC' Acosta as Head of THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO US & CANADA and the opening of a new branch in Los Angeles, in the heart of the global audiovisual industry. LA joins existing offices in Miami and New York with the aim of boosting the creation, production and distribution of content in English, a joint effort already starting to bear fruit.

The first projects born of this expansion in the North American market are already underway and make for a star-studded slate of titles including films, fiction series, documentaries and entertainment content, developed together with major talents such as producer Evan Katz ('24'), director Juan José Campanella (Oscar® winner for 'The Secret in Their Eyes'), creator and producer Juliet McDaniel ('Palm Springs’), and actors John Turturro ('The Big Lebowski', 'The Room Next Door') and Melissa Leo (Oscar® for 'The Fighter'), among other big names in the North American industry.

MEDIAPRO YONKERS STUDIOS: a 10,000 m2 facility in the industry’s epicenter
In April 2025, Mediapro Yonkers Studios opens its doors as GRUP MEDIAPRO's new production hub situated at the huge audiovisual campus of Great Point Studios in Yonkers (New York). The center, located in this global heart of the film and TV production industry, will offer its facilities to members of the movie, TV, advertising, music production and streaming service industries as well as independent professionals.

Mediapro Yonkers Studios will occupy a total area of 10,200 m2, with 4,600 m2 spread across 3 stages, as well as technical equipment for production and post-production. With a planned investment of $70 million dollars over 10 years, MEDIAPRO US expects to achieve 60% occupancy of the facility in the first year. The new premises will be equipped with the most advanced technology for filming as well as content production and post-production, including a Virtual Production (VP) set.

MEDIAPRO XPERIENCES to create and manage its own experiential spaces
Mediapro Xperiences, the new GRUP MEDIAPRO business unit for the creation, production and management of all types of experiential content and formats, has unveiled its growth strategy. As well as continuing to expand the ongoing businesses of designing museum spaces (Mediapro Exhibitions) and events (Mediapro Events), it will create and manage its own experiential spaces, which could act as venues for new IP also designed by GRUP MEDIAPRO.
The unit has appointed a team to embrace this new endeavor bringing it even closer to end customers – the creation of GRUP MEDIAPRO’s own IP and the management of its own spaces. The new unit aspires to be a leader in the emerging field of experiential content and has already begun to build a network of alliances with partners, creators and designers and to analyze various spaces and venues in order to offer experiential formats to the public.

Fund for the purchase of sports IP
GRUP MEDIAPRO has announced that the company will launch and manage a €1 billion fund dedicated to the acquisition of sports intellectual property (IP) around the world. GRUP MEDIAPRO will take advantage of its extensive experience in the management of broadcasting rights, merchandise marketing, sponsorships, physical events and digital content rights in setting up a strategy to monetize the acquired IP. The new fund aims to become a key player in the sports rights and IP market under the management and expertise of GRUP MEDIAPRO.

The fund will focus its activity on acquiring intellectual property rights of both established and emerging sports worldwide, monetizing these acquisitions by using GRUP MEDIAPRO’s extensive know-how to grow and transform each into a more valuable asset. With this management, GRUP MEDIAPRO will complement the audiovisual activities that it has been carrying out for decades. The extensive experience of the Spanish audiovisual group will allow the fund to quickly position itself in the market and explore business opportunities all over the world.

The fund will be open to third party investors and to that end, advance talks have already taken place with investors interested in GRUP MEDIAPRO's experience in the sector.
