‘Quiet’ presented at the Sitges Film Festival, a THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO co-production with 3Cat

Starring David Verdaguer and Ángela Cervantes, the series is directed by Marta Pahissa and features Lluís Arcarazo as main screenwriter

At the 57th edition of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO presented ‘Quiet’, an 8-part thriller co-produced with 3Cat for release on TV3 and the 3Cat platform. The series – set in a Barcelona under lockdown and based on a true story – follows the police investigation of a serial killer choosing society’s most vulnerable as his victims: the homeless.

The series – created by Lluís Arcarazo – had its international presentation on Monday, October 7 together with stars David Verdaguer and Ángela Cervantes. Joining them were fellow cast members Alex Brendemühl, Roger Guitart and Victoria Kantch, and director Marta Pahissa. Also in attendance were executive producers for THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO, Javier Méndez and Lluís Arcarazo, who is also the main scriptwriter of all episodes, as well as Oriol Sala-Patau, executive producer for 3Cat.

David Verdaguer (winner of two Goya awards for Jokes & Cigarettes and Summer 1993) and Ángela Cervantes (twice nominated for a Goya award for La Maternal and Chavalas), are the stars of this series, shot in various parts of the city of Barcelona. The lineup also features Àlex Brendemühl (a Goya nominee for Creatura) and Melina Matthews (Iron Reign) as well as young actors Roger Guitart and Victoria Kantch. Marta Pahissa (Rapa, Ser o no ser) directs all episodes. The series is an original idea of Lluís Arcarazo (Salvador, Nit i dia), who is also the main scriptwriter of each episode along with co-writers Guillermo Cisneros and María Jaén.

Based on a true story, the plot of Quiet’ unfolds in late April of 2020, in the grip of the COVID-19 lockdown. The authorities arrest a man accused of murdering various homeless people, one after another, on the streets of Barcelona. The murders all follow the same modus operandi: all taking place while the victims are asleep and all involving extreme brutality. With this as the context, and against the backdrop of a desolate and locked down city, Arcarazo explores the idea of ‘mal’, which in Spanish can have meanings including both ‘evil’ and ‘a sickness’, such as a virus, that infects its victims.  The homicide agents in charge of the investigation, those closest to them, and those who are forced to live on the streets of Barcelona with no way to flee any evil they encounter are the story’s main characters.

‘Virtually Everything’ - a summit packed with talks, demonstrations and workshops on virtual technology

GRUP MEDIAPRO hosted a summit dedicated to virtual production. The “Virtually Everything” event took place on October 8 at the virtual production studio at its production center in New York, bringing together experts and companies from across the sector. The group, together with the audiovisual company Vü Virtual Studio Network organized a full day of practical demonstrations, workshops and an extensive program of talks with industry leaders such as Emili Planas, CTO of GRUP MEDIAPRO; Brenda Berstein, GRUP MEDIAPRO Head of Innovation for the Southern Cone region; Lawrence Jones, Creative Director and VFX Supervisor at Parliament; and Tony Rizzuto, Executive Creative Director at Accenture.

‘Virtually Everything’,  – occurring within the framework of the audiovisual trade show NAB Show New York – was fittingly held at the virtual production studio that Mediapro North America recently inaugurated in Hudson Yards in midtown Manhattan. With an area of 1,200m2 and a 54m2 LED screen, this studio is capable of generating high-quality immersive content and an ideal space to host an event with the audiovisual industry’s key players.

Virtual production is one of the strategic business lines of GRUP MEDIAPRO, which already harnesses this technology on its set in Miami -the largest in South Florida- as well as in Barcelona (Spain) and Lisbon (Portugal). With the opening in June this year of the studio in the heart of New York, the group further consolidated its presence on the American continent, where it began operating over 25 years ago. Mediapro North America plans to shortly open virtual sets in Toronto (Canada) and Mexico City (Mexico).
